What is Anime and Manga?

Anime is the Japanese word for Animation. In North America the word Anime is used to describe any Animation that originates from Japan. Anime is generally thought of as cartoons in North America and while they are both animated many fans will take offense to the term cartoon to refer to anime. This is because most anime is marketed towards teens and young adults (ages 12-21) resulting in a more mature Storyline, Storytelling, and Art Style.

Japanese Culture in North America.

Japanese Culture has had a very large influence in North American culture over the past decade. From the Art Style for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games Mascots to Japanese Bands Touring Sold out shows in North America, the cultural influence is ever growing.

Why Hold an Anime Convention?

"Why hold an Anime Convention?" I have been asked that many times now and i will always reply the same way, "Why not?". Kita-Kon is the only Anime Convention between Toronto's 'Anime North', Minneapolis' 'Anime Detour', and Winnipeg's 'Ai-Kon'. Thats a minimum 6 hour drive or a $300+ round trip on an airplane for over a potential 200,000 people. Last year we had over 100 people show up for our first year. This year we are looking to break the 250 mark. We believe that in the next couple years we can attract as many as 500~600 anime fans from across Northwestern Ontario and Northern Minnesota.
