Happy Holidays!

We hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable holiday season! We have been working hard to make sure that the planning for Winterfest is on track. If you need more information on the Winterfest, check the post below this one. From everyone at Kita-Kon, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Kita-Kon Winterfest Mini-con

Kita-Kon will be holding a one day mini-con February 20th, 2012, (Family Day) at Lakehead University. If you pre-register for the convention before December 1st, 2011, you will recieve a free pass to the winterfest mini-con! After December 1st, 2011, we will be charging $7.00 for tickets to the winterfest at the door only.

To pre-register for the convention visit Hill City Comics, 26 Court Street South, or pre-register online via paypal.

Thank you, Michael Mayes!

I would like to thank Michael Mayes for helping us run Kita-Kon over the past 5 years. He was one of our hardest working members of staff, and it will be hard to continue without his support. The following is an excerpt from his resignation letter.

"After careful thought and consideration, after the staff meeting, I have come to the decision that I no longer feel I can contribute as a position of staff in the convention... I have no ill will towards the convention or its staff who I have spent the last 5 years with, however, I am at a point where I do not feel I can contribute any longer because of the attitudes of some of our attendees. I have enjoyed our previous accomplishments however it is more and more-so feeling that the convention is no longer about sharing anime in the community amongst the various fan based..."

Unfortunately, I have to admit that attendee apathy has effected us over the last two years. It also still threatens to end Kita-Kon completely, and I don't want that to ever happen. We CAN'T run Kita-Kon without you being excited and involved in the convention. I'm also going to mention that we have a registration quota to reach by January 2012. If we do not have 100 people registered for the convention by then, we will have no choice but to cancel it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, so let's make sure Kita-Kon happens in 2012!

Thank you, Daniel D'Amours

Kita-Kon Date Changes

This post is a little late, but the dates for Kita-Kon have changed to September 7th-9th 2012. That means Kita-Kon 2012 will be our first 3 day convention! Our rates have gone up, but we will have some surprises with our guests and events because of this. We hope to see you all there!

Mascot & Artwork

Hello, everyone! The theme for this year's mascot is swimsuit/beach-style!

We're in the process of designing an energetic Yukino for the convention's booklets, posters, and flyers. Unfortunately, there is no art contest for Kita-Kon 2012, but anyone who feels artistically inclined can pitch in their own drawings of Yukino. If you submit artwork, you may have your design on pages in our booklets, flyers, etc. Chibi art is especially welcome for the corners of pages in the convention booklet.

A pony-Yukino would be appreciated for the staff's enjoyment!

Submit your art to: art@kita-kon.org

This year's Yukino was designed by Wanaca @ Deviant Art. Click the thumbnail for a larger image.

Crossplay The Chairman Fundraiser

We have a new donation incentive! We've involuntarily donated the body of our chairman Dan to the "Crossplay the Chairman" Fund. If we reach $300 by May 31st, 2012 Dan will crossplay during both the opening and closing ceremonies. If we reach $500 in donations by that same date, Dan will also have to work in the Kita-Kon Maid Cafe! That's just 100 of our attendees putting in a mere $3-$5 each.

Donate Today!

For those of you who do not have PayPal; we will also have a donations box at all of our upcoming fundraisers, so everyone can help the Crossplay the Chairman Fund!
